HOME e HOUSE

Diferença das palavras HOME e HOUSE.

First of all, both words refer to the place where you live. However, house describes a particular type of building whereas home is the place where you live and feel that you belong to.
If you didn’t get it, try to translate them, house (casa), home (lar).
There are sentences where only one of them can be used and when using the word HOUSE, it can be replaced by the word PLACE. Normally, you use HOME when refering to your own place and HOUSE when talking about someone else’s place or the building where you live in.

EXAMPLES:
  • I am going to finish my housework. (The work the person has is in the building, rooms, etc)
  • I have to call home. (The person wants to call someone who lives in his house, someone such as a relative)
  • Martha stayed at her aunt’s house. (it is not her home, it is someone else’s house.)
  • She went to California in January and she stayed there for six months, she missed home so much! She felt homesick! ( the person miss her own place, the people who lives/lived with her in her house.)
  • Luise is going to crash at my place today ( it means her friend is going to sleep in her house)
